Look forward to your future and follow your dreams. What your friends have said about failure being inevitable is true and coming to terms with it is a part maturity. What really matters, as you have mentioned, is how you recover as doing so will test your character. That does not mean that striving for perfection is wrong but to expect it is unrealistic and will only set yourself up for.. shall we say.. failure.
