Back when I still have some decent amount of free time, I went to check out
Lat Kampung Boy The Musical.
I actually heard about it via twitter.
Yes, that's my news source, for time-starved me.
Going through my schedule, I cleared one night from everything to go watch this.
It'll be my first ever musical theatre production.
I've been reading Lat since I was young, so this is just perfect for a first time experience, considering i'm a HUGE fan.
And Lat is just iconic.
A not-to-be-missed show, literally, I would say.
Seeing as we weren't allowed cameras, i had to settle with my phone's camera, so forgive me for the quality.
The musical was held from March 16th to April 3rd.
I was pretty late in finding out about this so the first few shows were already booked. The respond to the show was tremendous! The only seats that were available were the RM300 ones by then.
But I had to watch it no matter what.
So I caught the show on the very last day.
Khairul (who watched the first show), advised me to get stage floor tickets right in front of the lighting.
It had the best view apparently.
So we got the RM120 per person seats.
Lat Kampung Boy The Musical traces the journey to stardom of top cartoonist Datuk Mohamad Nur Khalid (aka Lat). And yes, that's him.
He was there for the show.
And so was Harith Iskandar and his wife, fellow FHM GND, Jezamine Lim.
Harith Iskandar was the writer and director of the show, alongside Hans Isaac. Their cast includes Awie, Atilia (amazing voice!) and Douglas Lim.
Having met Douglas Lim on a number of occasions and witnessed his stand-up comedy, I knew he won't be a let down.
Lat's Original works on showcase.
The lobby of Istana Budaya was filled with Lat's works!
I actually have the comic book that this scene is in!
6ft JC was my date.
Ignore the weird face i made that night.
Of course, I sneakily took a photo of the insides.
Like ninja.
For the record,
IT WAS BEYOND AWESOME!
It was my first musical and it has got me hooked onto theatre productions.
To a certain degree, it was better than watching the movies because it was so real.
And you're witnessing the story right before your very eyes.
It's probably pricier than going to the movies, but I love the whole ambience and everything was pretty much worth the price I paid. Maybe even more.
The choreography, songs, storyline, acting, props, and the sheer coordination of the performance blew me away.
Frankie is just the cutest!
(He's the chinese boy that shakes from left to right repeatedly, Lat's best friend. And I just found out he's actually my friend's , Sarah, brother. How cool is that?!)
As I came as a guest, and not media, I couldn't take any snapshots.
Not that i can anyway since I was laughing, crying and getting anxious every 5 minutes.
So here's some I took from Bryan's blog.
Never go on the first day of the show though, I heard they don't perform as well, that they need to warm up. And the great thing about going on the last day (except catching it later than everyone else), is the fact that the last curtain call always has something special, and we got it. Tun Dr. Mahathir and a couple of celebrities were amongst us.
It's definitely a change to my busy routine.
And it was definitely nice having some time with 6ft JC for once, that doesn't involve any work or stress.
Here's to the biggest theatre production in Malaysia and the 30, 000 audience that attended.
NO REGRETS WHATSOEVER.
After which, it was mamak with the boys.
Talk about the perfect ending to the night.
kisses.
